Letter from IWF Director General Mr. Attila ADAMFI

Dear Colleagues,
According to our mail below we did not hide our disappointment about the preparation of the All African Games in Brazzaville.
As you know, the IWF was not involved in the Joint Meetings and our knowledge and experience was not utilized during the preparation and the Games in order to organize the event on the highest possible level.
The above mentioned issues forced us to reconsider the recognition of the results and to review the status of the event.
Analyzing the different reports received from WFA, Technical Officials and Teams, and also keeping in mind that we should always prioritize the interest of the athletes in our actions and decision, we came to the following conclusions:
– the IWF recognizes the event as an IWF Event
– the IWF recognizes the event as an Olympic Qualification Event
– the results are recognized and included in the IWF database (http://www.iwf.net/results/results-by-events/)
For your kind information, you can find all relevant information on Rio Olympic Games on the following link:
http://www.iwf.net/rio2016/
The above decision was made considering the existence of the following basic conditions:
– IWF approved Sport Equipment and Competition Management System was used
– IWF appointed ITOs officiated – we should give them a big applause for their tireless contribution and great efforts
– doping control was conducted
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any further question.
Kind regards,
Attila ADAMFI

IWF Director General
